Profile of Nandini KR
Nandini KR was born and brought up in the Kolar Gold Field of Karnataka. She did schooling from St. Joseph Convent Girls High School. She had decided to become an IAS officer during her school days itself. It was natural for her to not look for private job after engineering and rather start preparation for Civil Services. In between, she had also worked for Karnataka PWD department as an engineer. It should be noted that Nandini has done B. Tech (Civil Engineering) from prestigious M S Ramaiya Engineering College, Bangalore.
Nandini cracked Civil Services Examination in her third attempt in CSE 2015. However, her rank was not good enough and she was allotted Indian Revenue Services (IRS). She joined IRS without compromising with her preparation. This year she appeared with better preparation and the result justifies her hard work.
By caste, Nandini KR is an OBC. She took Kannada literature as her optional subject for Civil Services Mains Examination.

A moment of surprise: With exclusive interview with India Express, she uttered in Hindi :- “Jab result aaya main us waqt so rahi thi. I knew they would be out today but there’s usually no particular time. When my phone started buzzing repeatedly, I realised the results had been announced. Since then we have been so busy that I still haven’t had time to actually register what has happened”.
Who forced Nandini to nail the Civil Services Exam: In an interview, she accepted that her parents only made her realize the importance of being a civil servant. Seeing all the requisite qualities of a bureaucrat in her, her parents motivated her to prepare for IAS exam when she was in school only. She had opted for humanities in her plus two, CBSE board.
Her family background: Her mother’s name is Himali. She is trained as engineer. Her father Jaswant is working in Department of Telecom.
Why she opted for __ Cadre? She answered very simply. She says the state _ is always known from its patriarchal mindset and the gender inequality. It has always disturbed me. I belong to a modern and progressive family so there is no space for gender inequality at least in my life. I want to change the orthodox tag from the state ___ and I would feel great if I make any positive changes in the state.
What is your secret of success? She uttered a single word : “Patience”. Patience is the key of my success. She added sometimes the time comes when you feel lonely and depressed because this is such a difficult exam and a long process. Other parts of your life become almost non-existent, so patience I think is also key.”
Who is her role model? Her mother. Nandini gives all the credit for her results to her mother who is honest, humble and down to earth. She is also obliged to Mukul Pathak Sir (who used to teach in a Karnataka coaching class). He provided her very helpful notes and guidance. She was taking coaching from vajiram and ravi.
KR Nandini total score in UPSC is 1,063 (52.49 %) out of 2,025 marks. Second ranker Anmol Sher Singh Bedi secured 1,018 marks that is 50.27%. G Ronanki secured third rank. He got 1,014 that is 50.07%.
